Sunset and Sprinkling of Rain
Standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon is like seeing the fingerprints of time. It’s a place where infinite skies complement amber-walled canyons and the blue-green needles of gnarled juniper trees. Some 5,000 feet below, the Colorado River ripples and rages past ancient rocks, a living reminder of the forces that shape this ever-changing world. There’s nothing about the Grand Canyon that isn’t intense in some way—the sun, the terrain, even the vegetation has a certain tenacity.

Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography, a new traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, is about human tenacity and the lengths to which photographers go to capture their images. It’s about patience, stamina, and luck. The amazing images in the exhibition are the result. Selected by a jury of representatives from Eastman Kodak and National Geographic, the contemporary images in Lasting Light—like their early counterparts—are awe-inspiring pictures of one of America’s greatest natural wonders.

Now, we'd like to see your pictures and hear your stories . . .
Post your images and tell us your tales!
